When I was a pastor, I often drove by the Blackbrook Golf Course in Mentor on the way to my office. One of the holes is lined up almost parallel to the road. The tee is positioned so that the golfers hit the ball just left of the road. I always wondered if someone might slice the ball right off the green and into my windshield. It never happened but I couldn’t help keeping my eyes on the golfers every time I drove by.
I took our family van to work today and happened to be driving past the Kirtland Country Club on Kirtland Road during a late lunch. Kirtland Road is the cutoff between Mentor Avenue in Willoughby and Route 306 in Mentor. It’s a nice road to drive as there are some fancy houses, pretty trees with overhanging branches, and the occasional glimpse of people playing golf. As I drove down the road today, I wasn’t thinking much of anything until I saw something white bouncing 30 yards ahead of the van. This thing was bouncing 30 feet in the air. Hey! That’s a golf ball!
If you were the person driving behind me today, I apologize for slamming on the brakes and veering in and out of the lane. But I really don’t need to apologize as you probably saw the same thing bouncing over your car as well. What a surprise!
