One of my favorite Volvos is the R-Design version of the XC60 T6 AWD. We currently have a 2010 model which has a nice look to it. It’s black with the 5-spoke R-Design wheels and plenty of power. I took it to get lunch Saturday and stopped for a few pictures in a neighborhood near the dealership. The leaves on the trees were more brilliant in person and I suppose the same could be said about this vehicle. It really looks good with the 20″ rims versus the normal 18″. And that’s coming from someone who doesn’t like “Big Wheel” cars with abnormally large wheels.
When the R-Design trim level first came out it was just an appearance package. It came with things like blue gauges, embossed leather seats, and a few exterior differences. Nowadays, the 2014 models have a performance advantage as well. The engine gets a boost to 325 hp and 354 lb. ft. of torque. (That boost in power is also available with the Polestar upgrade for T6 engines.) I’ve not driven a new version of the XC60 R-Design yet but have heard that there is a definite performance difference over the T6. The suspension is also upgraded for a sportier feel.
