This is an older post that was never published during my years at Leikin Motor Companies (2008-14). The picture was taken at the town square in Painesville, Ohio.
Friday night, I took home one of the two BMW 6-Series we have in our pre-owned inventory at Leikin Motor Companies. BMW is still a curiosity to me but this car made me take a closer look. While I have driven a 6-Series before, this was the longest I have driven one. I probably put 25 miles on the car between last night and this morning. So, take this for what it’s worth — a 25 mile test drive.
My first impression of this car was simple curiosity. The look of the car is not quite what you would expect from a sports car. The headlights sit lower than they should. The trunk has a bloated look to it. And yet, it looks fast and fun to drive. Despite the “different” external design, there is something about the 6-Series that caused me to want to drive it. It is something like the Jaguar XJ-S — different but fun to drive.
It didn’t take long for me to find out how powerful this car is. Whether it was leaving the dealership or merging on to the 35 mph in town or 65 mph on the highway, the acceleration of this car is pronounced. But that’s what you would expect from the 325 hp 4.4L V8 (330 ft/lbs of torque). Adding to the fun was a six-speed manual transmission. It has been a while since I’ve driven a stick but this car put a smile on my face during the refresher course.
