In Make your car last 250,000 miles, Liz Weston gives good advise on how to keep your car running for a long time. There are two things I like about Liz. Not only did she keep her Ford Explorer running for 16 years, but she replaced it with a Volvo C30. That’s the kind of person that deserves to be read! I am interested to find out how many miles she gets out of that.
The advice she gives about car maintenance in the article is very good. But probably the most important was what she said on page two:
Refuse to care what other people think. I’m convinced that many, if not most, cars are traded in before their time simply because people become embarrassed about driving them. I chose to turn that thinking on its head by taking perverse pride in showing up with the oldest car at any restaurant, party or local event I attended. My motto was: “Laugh all you want. It’s paid for. Is yours?”
That’s just a portion of the good advice she gives in the article, so be sure to read the rest of it. It will be well worth your time.
