Pictures of the Volvo Concept Coupe came out recently and it looks pretty good. I like the styling, the front end, the big wheels, etc. But will it ever be more than a concept? In other words, will future Volvo models incorporate some of the design cues from the Concept Coupe? According to Giancarlo Perini of Ward’s Auto, you will see similar ideas in the soon-to-be-released Volvo XC90.
Ingenlath [Volvo Vice President of Design] stresses the Volvo Concept Coupe is no futuristic dream car but instead is designed to demonstrate the capability of the new architecture: the confident stance, the proportions and the most prominent design signatures. Some styling cues will make their way to the auto maker’s flagship XC90 cross/utility vehicle due on the market in 2014. “Even though the all-new XC90 is an entirely different type of car, you will recognize the connection instantly when it is revealed next year,” he says.
With nothing but the concept and our imagination, we are left wondering what the new XC90 will incorporate in the new design. Will it be the stripe through the headlights? the long swooping hood? the low roof line? In any event, I’m liking what I see in the concept. If Volvo can make it work with an SUV, then I’m all for it. Once again… we shall see.
