The 1984 AM General DJ-5M (Postal Jeep) was a part of our family for about six months. In that time, we maintained it, painted it, drove it, picked up various team members from basketball practice, and most recently listed it on Craigslist. Yes, despite the fun (and jolting ride), it was not meant to be. I will be going a different route for employment and car-wise.
The new owner is a rural carrier associate (RCA) in Tennessee and saw my advertisement on Craigslist. She and her husband agreed to purchase the Jeep last night, paid for it today and sent a truck to pick it up already. It should arrive around 1-2 am Thursday. That was quick! The sale also included four extra All-Season tires, the rest of the orange paint, and a folder of maintenance records.
I must admit that I took a lot of pictures of the Jeep today after doing some touch-up work. As you can see from the picture, it cleaned up very well. It was sort of difficult to let go if you know what I mean. After all the work we had put into it, it was sad to see it carted off on the trailer. But such is life. We enjoyed the Jeep for the six months or so that we owned it and Watson Street will never be the same again. At least we have some orange paint droplets on the driveway to remember it by. 🙂
