When i was a kid, we had some strange looking Hot Wheels cars to play with. While my brother was collecting normal cars, I wanted mine to have engines sticking out of the hood or something different. Remember the Red Baron car? I still have that one. At the time it was a strange looking car, but car designers have gone much further today.
Mystery Car 96 is the 2007 MAG magnetic vehicle concept by Matúš Procháczka. It’s designed with an electric engine which would interact with magnets embedded in a concrete road. Remember the force that won’t allow two magnets to touch. That’s the same idea. Because the car’s magnetic polarity would be the same as that in the road, the “effect will produce an upward force, which can lighten 50% of vehicle weight” (Design Buzz). Somehow I don’t see that happening any time soon, but I can see how the idea could boost fuel economy.
P.S. Wouldn’t you like to see the “plume” of mud flying from the rear wheel when it’s raining?
