Perry Yawell stopped by the dealership on Saturday. Although we had never met before, we soon learned that we had both owned the iconic Jaguar XJ-S V12. Neither of us still owns one, but we enjoyed talking about the good old days. I’m hoping that with the price of gas creeping toward $5/gal, these cars may become affordable again. (Did I mention a 1997 Jaguar XJR on Craigslist for $3000?)
But that really wasn’t the reason why Perry stopped by the dealership. After a death in the family, Perry recently acquired the car in the picture below. His uncle had purchased it “new” from a dealership in the 1970’s despite the fact that it was 15 years old. (Makes you wonder what kind of warranty this “new” car would have.) Although it had never been titled, the car had been used by the dealership in parades and who knows what else. So, the odometer had accumulated 18,000 miles. Not bad for a 15 year old car.
After acquiring the car in eastern Oregon, Perry decided to drive it all the way to Ohio. This he accomplished with no problems. But for those of you who know what this
is, you will not be surprised. Can you guess what Mystery Car 79 is?
Andy, this one is too easy. Let’s just say that it is a personal favorite. At least two of these have gone over 1 million miles; one of those cars currently holds the ever increasing world record for longevity at close to 3 million miles driven in the same car! I’ve seen that car with my own two eyes. Amazing!
I know! But I cheated.
With only 56,000 miles on her , its hardly even broken in, but I intend to drive her for many many years to come. Andy it was nice to talk to you and I drove the car back from Eastern Oregon, where it spent most of its life. My 72 (Mystery Car) was from Washington state though!
If I could see the back of the car, I’d be able to make a better guess. As is, I think it’s a Volvo P1800 from the looks of the grill! Cool car!
