According to Autoblog, Ford has come to an agreement with Geely for the sale of Volvo. All the details haven’t been worked out, but evidently they shook hands on the deal and will sign paperwork early next year. The entire deal should be done by mid-2010.
Seeing that we have a Volvo dealership at Leikin Motor Companies , I am wondering how that will affect us in the future. As much as I appreciate Swedish cars, it has been interesting to understand how Volvo designers organized their information system (VRCC). Some times I have no idea why they organized things the way they did. I’m sure the Chinese culture has their own way of organizing things as well. So, this ought to be interesting.
I’m not overly concerned with a reduction in quality. My father-in-law told me the story of a tool and die maker who traveled to China to see the operation that was “stealing” away “our” business. What he found was that the Chinese company had all the latest equipment in a huge modern building. If Geely is anything like that company, we’ll do well. But as always…
We shall see.
