Perhaps you’ve heard about the person who never checked his oil the entire time he owned the car. The story I heard was about a woman who owned a Ford Escort and never checked or changed the oil the entire time she owned her car. I’m not sure how commonplace that is, but I am sure that this doesn’t happen to Jaguar owners. At least it hasn’t happened to a Jaguar owner whose car is still running.
Owners of Jaguar cars built before 2000 know that to not check the car’s oil can be disastrous. The cars are known for leaking oil so much that an owner never worries unless the car is not leaking oil. Thus, they check the oil at every fill-up or even better every time the car is parked. This really is a good idea. It would be better to have checked and added a quart than to have the engine locking up while cruising at 65 mph.
Whether you drive a Jaguar or not, get into the habit of checking your engine’s vital fluids. It will keep you from some very costly repairs.
