We bought this 1996 Ford Probe SE from my sister yesterday. It comes with the four cylinder engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. What’s it like? Well, according to one source, the engine develops 118 hp. So, it’s not going to win a drag race. But it is very nimble and makes driving around town fun. And tonight when I picked up some neighbor kids for church youth groups, they were excited to ride in such a sporty car. It didn’t matter that the last two Volvos from the dealership had 281 and 311 hp. They liked that it was small, sporty, and had “eyelids” (flip up headlights).
This will be a good car to zip around in, but it’s really not a family car. Taking our three to school each day is fine, but it would be rather awkward to see Jefferson sitting in the back should Sharon want to come along. So, the big questions is: “Shall I keep it or sell it?” The kids are all for keeping it (especially my daughter). But we’ll have to see how things go. I’ve put out a few feelers to see if anyone might be interested in buying or trading for it. But until something happens, I’ll be enjoying the ride to and from work. 🙂
