Spyker Tidbits

A recent Hemmings’ article pointed out that Spyker produced a 4WD car in 1902. That got me thinking a bit and eventually got me reading up on the company. It was quite interesting.

  • Spyker was originally spelled Spijker but was changed for ease of pronunciation in English speaking countries (All Experts).
  • In 1896, Spyker presented a golden carriage to the Queen which is still used to carry Dutch royalty today (Wikipedia).
  • The company motto, ”Nulla tenaci invia est via,” means “For the tenacious, no road is impassable”.
  • Apparently, you can purchase a Spyker mobile phone (Spykerowner.com).
